"Amelia" is great. Go see the movie!
Hilary Swank does it again as the great Amelia Earhart! Don't believe the reviews. This is a film that is appropriate for the great aviatrix' time, the 30s.
So it's not a YouTube video with quicksilver editing and gory crash scenes. Who would want that? This is a film about a real American hero. Run out and see it before it disappears from theaters.
It's a beautiful, soaring movie in the classic tradition, with a melodic orchestral score, a lovely romance between Amelia and her publisher husband (they meet when he essentially casts her in the role of high-flying adventuress who will fund all her flights with public appearances, books and commercial endorsements). She was the first true celebrity in the modern mode.
Hilary Swank looks a lot like the beautiful, lanky Earhart and is, as usual, heart-breaking. She's spunky, sweet, and (we obviously can never forget) doomed. Don't doom this movie to a short run. Honor one of our greatest actresses and the pioneering woman she portrays!
